About the Project

Project Information

From the challenge and our solution, through key objectives and the full work plan — everything about how MagHeat works and what we aim to achieve.

Three Hurdles Blocking
Magnetic Refrigeration

Heating and cooling account for 50% of the EU's total energy consumption, with 75% of heating demand met by natural gas. Heat pumps are critical — but existing magnetic refrigeration technology faces fundamental barriers to widespread adoption.

A Dual-Innovation Approach

MagHeat tackles all three hurdles simultaneously through a novel permanent magnet assembly with a rotating iron insert, combined with liquid metal (Ga-In-Sn alloy) as heat transfer fluid — an industry first.

Three Pillars of Innovation

Starting at TRL 3, MagHeat will advance to TRL 5 across magnet design, material development, and full system integration — delivering a working prototype with 10 K temperature span and 100 W cooling power.
